Okorji, Ukela Emmanuel cut his post graduate working career teeth in a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) certified Microfinance Bank in Port Harcourt and has remained in the industry ever since bringing his long standing experience in the industry to over 15years. He nurtured a couple of microfinance Banks to gain CBN license and contributes his expertise in guiding their growth. He has held Senior Management positions as an operator which includes Head Operations, Head Finance and Accounts in addition to acting in the stead of the Managing Director. He joined the Rivers State Microfinance Agency in 2009 as an officer and grew rapidly within a year to being the Technical Assistant to the MD/CEO of the Agency and in less than 2years her pioneer Head of Compliance and Business Development and later Head of Strategy and Business Development. His innovative mind set has contributed in proffering strategic solutions to institutional challenges such as; increasing delivery channels to reach target markets; which included taking advantage of the CBN window on Government ownership of Microfinance Banks to advance the establishment of a State Microfinance Bank in Rivers State called Rima Growth Pathway Microfinance Bank Limited. Ukela was co- anchor charged with the Implementation of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) 7th country program on private sector development in Rivers State, thereby building the capacity of over 300 micro entrepreneurs and over 100 micro finance practitioners.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree (Bsc) in Accounting from the faculty of Management Sciences in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. He is also an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) with over 8years post qualification experience. He is a Microfinance Certified Banker (MCIB) being an associate member of the Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). Mr Ukela Emmanuel Okorji is an alumnus of several training institutes; amongst them is the 2011 class of the School of African Microfinance (SAM) in Mombasa, Kenya and the Boulder Institute’s 18th Microfinance training held at the International Training Center of the International Labour organization, (ITC/ILO) in Turin, Italy, 2012. Arising from this expertise he contributed to the National Microfinance Development (NMDS) Strategy Document in Nigeria. He has attended and facilitated several seminars and conferences in addition to writings and presentations in journals mostly on the microfinance industry. Along with these trainings and exposures came numerous certificates and recognitions in Special Projects, Finance, and Strategy etc.
Mr Ukela Emmanuel Okorji is married and blessed with 2kids and a devote Christian by faith.
