Sofiri Josiah Koko, born in Amadi Ama in Port Harcourt City Council of Rivers State, Nigeria, he is a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Hons. degree in Accounting from the University of Port Harcourt. He qualified about 10years ago as an associate member of the revered Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He is also a Microfinance Certified Banker (MCIB) having qualified as a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. Sofiri Josiah Koko in the course of his over 15years carrier has bagged several certifications and awards in Accounting and Microfinance practice such as: The Certificate in International Financial Reporting (CertIFR) from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK); Certificate in Risk Based Internal Auditing etc. He has attended and facilitated at several trainings, seminars and conferences organised by RIMA, ICAN, CIBN, CBN, UNDP etc. particularly in the area of Accountancy and Microfinance practice.
Sofiri’s work experience has spanned for over 15years, 10 of which has been at executive management level. He joined Wilson Foods and Confectioneries Ltd. As an Accounts Officer from where he rose to a Branch Accountant in Branches in Port Harcourt and Enugu. After certified as an accountant by ICAN in 2006 he was promoted to the Head of Accounts at the corporate head office where he served until 2008 when he joined Cosmopolitan Microfinance Bank as the pioneer Financial Controller.
His microfinance carrier started at Cosmopolitan MFB where he participated in the process leading to the licensing of the bank where he held the position of Financial Controller while also overseeing the ICT Unit. He championed the team that saw to the establishment of more than six Cash Centres and Branches for the MFB until 2010 when he joined Rivers State Microfinance Agency (RIMA). Sofiri Josiah Koko started off in RIMA as the Head, Finance & Accounts, a position he held till 2011 when he was made the Head, Internal Audit/Control and later, his job was expanded to include supervising the Information and Communications Technology Unit i.e. Head, Internal Audit & ICT, a position he holds till date. Mr Koko has served in various adhoc and steering committees particularly the committee that midwifed the establishment of RIMA Growth Pathway Microfinance Bank Ltd. a subsidiary of RIMA.
Sofiri Josiah Koko is a devout evangelical Christian and Church Leader. He is married to a wonderful woman, Mercy Sofiri-Koko and they are blessed with 3 lovely children.
