Otonye Mac-Barango, Esq. is a seasoned arbitrator and legal practitioner with about 12 (Twelve) years post qualification experience in legal practice with particular emphasis on arbitration, company secretariat services, general litigation, finance/banking law, commercial law practice, corporate governance and compliance amongst others. He attended and graduated from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology in 2003, with an LL.B degree, from where he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus and having passed the requisite exams was admitted to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2004.
He undertook the mandatory National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Osun State, where he worked as a State Counsel in the Osun State Ministry of Justice between October, 2004 – September, 2005 and garnered quality experience in criminal law litigation. Upon conclusion of the NYSC Programme he worked briefly with the law firm of Bob-Manuel & Associates, from where he joined the reputable law firm of Lucius E. Nwosu (SAN) & Partners and worked in the firm as a Solicitor and Trial Lawyer between 2006- 2009. He joined the Rivers State Microfinance Agency (RIMA) as an Executive Assistant, Legal in 2009, from where he rose to become the Group Company Secretary/ Legal Adviser in 2012.
Otonye Mac-Barango, Esq who also oversees the Legal Department/Company Secretariat of the Agency’s subsidiaries has also undertaken strategic assignments for the Agency having served and continues to serve as Member, Management Credit Committee, Member, Management Tenders Committee, Member, Editorial Committee and Member, Disciplinary Committee.
A member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), having sat for and passed the requisite exams and also an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (UK). He has attended several Local and International conferences/ trainings and is a graduate of the “26th Course in drafting commercial agreements and banking “documentations of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies. He is a member of several professional bodies such as the International Bar Association (IBA) and Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
He is passionate about financing for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME’s) and has a firm belief in the capacity of the MSME Sector to act as the catalyst for the transformation of the economy of Rivers State in particular and Nigeria in general. He enjoys reading, playing cheese, travelling, undertaking research and is happily married to Barr. Inetimi Mac-Barango (nee Zuofa) and their union is blessed with a son Ethan Otonye Mac-Barango.
